A little bit of background...

The idea of Wales Week in New York was first developed and run through the Welsh Government's International Office, based out of the British Consulate in New York, from 2003 to 2013, through which it grew to over 40 partners and sponsors, producing events all over the city, promoting tourism, trade and investment, academia, food and drink, arts, film and entertainment, and the Welsh language.

And now, for the first time since 2013, Wales Week in New York is back - developed and funded by Welsh / American businessman Ty Francis MBE and run alongside his colleagues at New York Welsh
Linking with the successful Wales Week in London initiative, Wales Week in New York picks up from where it left off 6 years previously, and will become a cornerstone in a annual programme of Wales Week events taking place simultaneously across the globe, around the the time of St David’s Day

About Wales Week 2019

About Us

image37

We want others to know what's great about being Welsh, and we want them to join us in our celebrations. Every nation is unique, and each has their own way of commemorating this. Wales Week in New York is our moment, and we plan to use this as a stepping stone to help raise the profile of everything that is awesome about Wales.

Wales Week Worldwide

Wales Week in New York was a natural addition to an already successful initiative in the UK as Wales Week in London, founded in 2015 by two Welsh-based business people, Dan Langford and Mike Jordan - importantly though, the initiative could only achieve what is has because of the tremendous response from the Welsh communities across London, and the incredible support they received from various partners and sponsors. Wales Week in London also owes a huge debt of thanks to the Welsh Government and the Office of the Secretary of State for Wales - working collaboratively and with a shared ambition to promote a modern Wales around the world. Dan and Mike would love your support and input, this initiative must aim to benefit the whole of Wales and in any capacity possible; for that we need more activities, and louder and more diverse events. We want to make as much Welsh noise as possible and blow the minds of everyone across London.  So, do please get in touch to chat through any ideas you may have.

2019

In 2019, a Wales Week New York revival was launched and funded by Welsh-American businessman, Ty Francis MBE. This calendar of events around St. David's Day, galvanizing existing Welsh communities in New York City, Wales Week New York hopes to build a positive momentum across the city that is distinctly about Wales. This is an opportunity for organisations in Wales to promote their products and services, and develop new New York-based audiences, partnerships and connections. So together, with the best in Welsh business, music, art, food, tourism, heritage, sport, public life and the media, it will promote a fortnight of events that will collectively shout how good Wales is! Together with Marc Walby and Gwilym Roberts-Harry his fellow New York Welsh co-founders (New York’s largest Welsh social and business network aimed at supporting Welsh people, and those with Welsh roots) Wales Week New York will bring the New York Welsh community together, support business and the arts, and provide networking and support for those business overseas wanting to expand the US.
